THE WILD ONE

After WWII modern culture drastically changed from national into popular culture, crossing all boundaries, of nations and religions and of customs and taboos.. A mix of populist and elitist publics challenged each other with their tastes, cellebrating their heroes as roll-models

But just like the jeans in fashion, culture as a whole became the acting out of one common theme, the theme of the adventurous loner, the Wild-One iconized by the movie of this name from ’53. This was the beginning of a new American Dream, first expressed by the poets of the Beat Generation

But the real changes came about in England, where this inspired postwar hedonistic youthculture who broke away from the reign of patronizing regents and traditions. It stared with the BEATLES and the STONES and suddenly the youth itself was leading the way, blowing their minds with Sex, drugs and rock-'n-roll. The real Wild-Ones stayed aloof and hidden in the shade of Pop. Until John Lennon was killed, leaving the world in shock. As if Jesus died a second time on the Cross, still singing about looking at the bright side of Life
