SAINT-PETERSBURG:
From 1993 up to 2012 I visited Peterburg about 20 times and lived there for about two years off and on, while I organized several exchanges about architecture and cityplanning between Holland and Russia.
KIEV:
I travelled all over the Ukraine, visiting Kiev several times, Yalta two times, and Odessa. I was there just before the first Orange revolution took place.
MOSCOW:
I did a Russian language course in Moscow in 1993 and returned several times to study the city and take it as a base of operation to visit other cities and towns.
NIZHNIY NOVGOROD:
I accompanied entrepreneur and urban-planner Rob van der Bijl to NN to get the city-administration interested in a solution for infrastructural problems by means of Light Rail.
SAMARKAND:
Again with Rob van der Bijl I visited Uzbekistan to get an impression of the condition of infrastructure in this former USSR-state, travelling by car. I went further by visiting Bukhara by train and Kiva by plane.
WOLGOGRAD:
Also with Rob van der Bijl I visited this city to get an impression of a Soviet city, reconstructed as a linear-city, along the banks of a wide river. And of a memorial city, commemorating the final WWII battle.
